Gareth Cox

1957-2024

It is with a heavy heart that we have to say goodbye to our great friend and colleague, Gareth who passed away in May 2024.

Many of us have known Gareth for more than 20 years from our early days at Osmond Tricks which he first joined in the 1980’s, and since then at GVA in the noughties.  He was the cornerstone of the office with extensive experience and seemingly endless knowledge. He was a mentor to many of us at Osmond Tricks and also to a long line of young building surveyors who are practising today.  He loved to challenge not only the inexperienced surveyors, but also the more seasoned professionals, often with a mischievous glint in his eye!

Gareth had a natural enthusiasm for life and a passion for all things outdoors.  He and his wife, Gill have walked, cycled and camped in so many fantastic places around the world and Gareth would share his adventures with us with a slideshow (or three) as we eagerly gathered around his screen.  He owned and played a range of musical instruments that possibly outnumbered his bicycle collection, and a stock of camping gear that would put outdoors suppliers to shame.

Gareth loved language and had a penchant for sesquipedalian language in particular and delighted in seeing our puzzled faces upon hearing his latest unfathomable concoction delivered with his own poetic Welsh lilt.

More than anything, Gareth was one of the good guys. He was genuinely interested in what you had to say and wanted to help.  Completely unique. One of a kind. We will miss him dearly.
